Sensex Rises 387 Points; Nifty Nears 7,500 As Post-Budget Rally Continues


MUMBAI: Sensex is trading 1.60 pct higher at 24,630.36, while Nifty50 is up 113.90 points at 7,482.75 amid gains in Asian equities and as foreign investors increased their holdings of Indian shares.

2:30pm: The Sensex is currently trading 328.45 points higher, or up 1.35 pct, to 24,571.43 while the Nifty rises 91.20 points, or 1.24 pct, to 7,460.05.

2:20pm: The rupee strengthens for the fifth consecutive session against the U.S. dollar at 67.35, up 0.31 pct, from its previous close of 67.55.

2:10pm: Renewable energy stocks trading higher. Suzlon Energy Ltd is up 10 pct to 15.17, Inox Wind Ltd rises 18 pct to 281.25.

1:58pm: MEP Infrastructure Developers Ltd rises 5.2 pct to 42.40 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it got order worth 72.36 crore from NHAI.

1:48pm: The Sensex is currently trading 334.23 points higher, or up 1.38 pct, to 24,577.21 while the Nifty rises 92.20 points, or 1.25 pct, to 7,461.05.

1:35pm: UB Groups shares trading lower after Mint reported that the State Bank of India (SBI) has moved the Bangalore debt recovery tribunal (DRT), seeking an arrest warrant against Vijay Mallya, a week after United Spirits Ltd (U.S.L) said he had resigned as its chairman in return for a $75 million payout.

1:25pm: United Breweries Holdings Ltd falls 3 pct to 21.10, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd falls 0.5 pct 40.3, United Breweries Ltd falls 0.5 pct to 805, United Spirits Ltd falls 1 pct to 2,483.05.

1:15pm: Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company is up 7 pct to 298 on the BSE ahead of its board meet on 5 March to consider rights issue.

1:05pm: Just Dial Ltd gains 11 pct to 612. The stock gained over 47 pct since 12 February. So far the year it is down 27.4 pct. On 27 February, Just Dial announced the launch of its B2B offering JD Omni which is a plug and play cloud hosted system to help small retailers manage orders, inventory and billing.

12:50pm: Oil equipment companies are trading higher on the back of higher volumes. GOL Offshore Ltd rises 14.05 pct to 41.80, Aban Offshore Ltd 8.01 pct to 177.40, Dolphin Offshore Enterprises India Ltd rises 16.35 pct to 84.70.

12:40pm: The Sensex is now trading 285.64 points higher, or up 1.18 pct, to 24,528.62 while the Nifty rises 78.95 points, or 1.07 pct, to 7,447.80.

12:25pm: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd rises 0.6 pct to 3,632.50. The company said in a notice to BSE that it has raised prices by upto 34,494.

12:15pm: Indian Overseas Bank falls 2.1 pct to 25.55 after CARE downgrades ratings of IOB ‘s Basel III compliant bond issues to CARE BBB from CARE A-.

12:05pm: Eveready Industries India Ltd rises 2.2 pct to 233.55 while McLeod Russel falls 1.1 pct to 164.10. According to news reports Eveready Industry is looking to spin off its packet tea business into a separate unit and scale it up by aligning its operations with that of the promoter group’s plantation company, McLeod Russel India Ltd.

11:55am: Housing Development Finance Corp. Ltd rises 2 pct to 1,120.20 after the company decided to raise 2,000 crore via non-convertible debentures (NCDs) to fund business needs.

11:45am: Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd rises 2.3 pct to 3,085. The company is seeking approval from its shareholders for a share buyback for an aggregate amount not exceeding 1,569.42 crore.

11:35am: The Sensex is currently trading 222.72 points higher, or up 0.92 pct, to 24,465.70 while the Nifty rises 63.85 points, or 0.87 pct, to 7,432.70.

11:30am: Tata Steel Ltd rises 2.3 pct to 273.50 after news report said that the company has received final environment clearance for its 1,877 crore expansion project to be carried out at Jamshedpur Steel Works in Jharkhand.

11:20am: Jindal Steel and Power Ltd rises 1.4 pct to 58.25. According to a CNBC report, JSPL looking to raise 20,000 crore from sale of its power division to cut the debt of the company.

11:10am: Prakash Steelage Ltd rises 9 pct to 8.60 after the stock turned ex split. The company has announced to stock split of its shares in the ratio of 10:1.

11:00am: Jubilant Foodworks Ltd rises 7.4 pct to 1,177. The stock is trading for the fifth consecutive sessions. It hit 52-week low of 966 on 25 February and since then it gained 24 pct.

10:55am: Tata Motors Ltd rises 5.1 pct to 333.20.

10:45am: Coal India Ltd rises 1 pct to 313.85 ahead of its board meeting on 5 March which will meet to consider for payment of interim dividend. The company has fixed 15 March as a record date for the dividend.

10:35am: Future Consumer Enterprises Ltd rises 3.2 pct to 22.65, Future Retail Ltd rises 5 pct to 134.20 and Trent Ltd rises 1.7 pct to 1,493.85. According to news report the Future group to tieup with Trent hypermarket to distribute private FMCG labels via Trents star bazaar stores.

10:25am: Indian equity-index futures advanced over 200 points and the NSE Nifty retook the 7,400-mark on Thursday as the post-budget rally continued following creation of fresh bets coupled with a fresh spell of foreign fund inflows.

The Sensex is now trading 220.42 points higher, or up 0.91 pct, to 24,463.40 while the Nifty rises 61.90 points, or 0.84 pct, to 7,430.75.

10:15am: Metal stocks are trading higher after rally in the global commodities. Hindalco Industries Ltd rises 2.4 pct, Vedanta Ltd rises 1.6 pct, Steel Authority Of India 1.2 pct.

10:05am: Tata Motors Ltd rises 2 pct to 323.25 after JLR India total sales grew by 54 pct year-on-year to 277 units compared to 179 units reported in the year-ago period.

9:55am: Banking stocks trading lower on the back of profit booking. Indian Overseas Bank falls 2.7 pct, Allahabad Bank 2.6 pct, Bank of Baroda 2.4 pct, IDBI Bank 2.3 pct, Punjab National Bank 2.1 pct, Union Bank of India 2.1 pct, Bank of Baroda 2 pct, Bank of India 2 pct, Oriental Bank of Commerce 1.8 pct, State Bank of India 1.1 pct, ICICI Bank 2.2 pct, Yes Bank falls 1.5 pct.

9:50am: Piramal Enterprises Ltd falls 5.7 pct to 840. According to Economic Times report, Ajay Piramal planning to invest in Lafarge Indian operations.

9:47am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading 165.66 points higher, or up 0.68 pct, to 24,408.64 while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rises 43.10 points, or 0.58 pct, to 7,411.95.

9:35am: The Indian rupee strengthens for the fifth consecutive session against the U.S. dollar at 67.42, up 0.21 pct, from its previous close of 67.55.

9:30am: India’s 10-year bond yield is at 7.632 pct, marginally up from its Wednesday’s close of 7.612 pct..

9:25am: Fearing a re-run, investors are holding back on shorting the euro, keeping it at $1.0871 and off a one-month trough of $1.0825. The dollar also faded a little on the yen to 113.70, after losing grip of a two-week high at 114.56.

9:15am: U.S. crude edges up a further 9 cents to $34.75 a barrel, while Brent also rises 9 cents to $37.02.

9:10am: MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan adds another 0.9 pct to reach a seven-week top, having surged 2.6 pct on Wednesday.

9:00am: Asian shares were bound for a third straight session of gains on Thursday as upbeat data on U.S. jobs and a rally in a range of commodities whetted risk appetites globally.

8:50am: U.S. stocks fluctuated near eight-week highs as banks rallied for a second day. The S&P’s 500 Index rose 0.1 pct to 1,979.51, the Dow Jones Industrial Average retreated 10.69 points, or 0.1 pct, to 16,854.39, and the Nasdaq Composite Index declined 0.1 pct.
