Sensex Gains Over 80 Points; Hindustan Oil Exploration Rises 3 Pct


MUMBAI:  9:40am: The 30-share S&P BSE sensex is currently trading higher by 83.68 points, or 0.32Pct, to 25,900.04, while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rises 13.90 points, or 0.18Pct, to 7,928.60.

9:35am: Hindustan Oil Exploration Co. Ltd rises 3Pct to 34.35 after the company said it reported a net profit of 1.38 crore in March quarter as compared to net loss of 6.03 crore a year ago.

9:30am: The Indian rupee on Wednesday hits two-week high against the U.S. dollar at 66.27, up 0.42Pct from its previous close of 66.55, after India’s trade deficit narrowed to a five-year low.

9:25am: India’s 10-year bond yield is trading at 7.412Pct as compared with its Monday’s close of 7.417Pct.

9:20am: The dollar has managed to hold on to this week’s gains above ¥109, having tumbled on Monday below ¥108 in the panic that followed Sunday’s Doha oil talks failure.

9:15am: Oil prices again led the way by reversing much of Tuesday’s sharp gains. Brent crude sheds 83 cents to $43.20 a barrel, while U.S.  crude oil sinks $1.02 to $40.11.

9:10am: Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 edges up 0.5Pct in morning trading to 16,962.28. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 adds 0.3Pct to 5,271.80. South Korea’s Kospi gains 0.3Pct to 2,016.81. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng falls 0.6Pct to 21,307.82, while the Shanghai Composite inches up nearly 0.1Pct to 3,044.98.

9:00am: Asian stocks meanders on Wednesday, though sentiment was lifted by Wall Street’s strong day, as investor attention turned to upcoming remarks from a European Central Bank (ECB) official.

8:50am: The Dow Jones industrial average gained 49 points, or 0.3Pct, to 18,053. The Standard and Poor’s 500 index added six points, or 0.3Pct, to 2,100. The Nasdaq edged down 19 points, or 0.4Pct, to 4,940.
