Rupee Gains 4 Paise against Dollar in Early Trade

Mumbai: The rupee rose by 4 paise at 66.88 against the U.S. dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on continued selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.

Besides selling of the U.S. currency by exporters and banks, a higher opening in domestic stock markets and the dollar's weakness against some currencies overseas, supported the rupee, forex dealers said.

The rupee had staged a comeback from its over two-year lows to close 17 paise higher at 66.92 against the U.S. dollar in yesterday's trade amid rise in equities.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 123.04 points, or 0.48 percent, at 25,443.48 in early trade.
