Key Indian Equity Indices Trade In Red During Afternoon Session


MUMBAI: Key Indian equity market indices were trading in the red during the afternoon session on Thursday as technology related stocks plunged.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE was trading 212 points or 0.78 percent lower during the afternoon session.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 51.45 points or 0.62 percent lower at 8,221.60 points.

The BSE Sensex, which opened at 26,994.48 points, was trading at 26,808.66 points (at 12.47 p.m.) in the afternoon session -- 212 points or 0.78 percent lower from the previous day's close at 27,020.66 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 26,994.91 points and a low of 26,801.95 points in the trade so far.

Good buying was observed in metal and oil and gas sectors. Selling pressure was seen in IT and technology, media and entertainment (TECK).

The S&P BSE metal index gained by 1.44 per cent and oil and gas index went up by 1.32 per cent. However, IT index dropped by 2.16 percent and TECK index went down by 1.75 per cent.
