To know about the authorized platinum jewelers, you can check the list mentioned on the website of the Platinum Guild India. "Apart from the set of authorised jewellers, every platinum product is authenticated by a third-party certification by the Underwriters Laboratories, popularly known as the UL Card. So insist on this card from the jewellers, which gives authenticity to your purchase, that too by a neutral party," says Jain.

When you go for shopping, ask the jeweler for ornaments which are hallmarked. The hallmarks are done based on the purity of the metal. For instance, jewellery containing 85 percent of pure platinum will be marked as 850, while that consisting of 95 percent of the metal will be marked as 950.

The Buy-back Dynamics

The platinum market is at its budding stage today. Very small numbers of jewellers are selling platinum in India; due to which its buy-back policy is not as flexible as gold. You can exchange it with jewellery only from the same store/brand you originally purchased from. You will get back only 85 percent of the cost of platinum.
