George Soros is currently the chairman of Soros Fund Management, a company which supports progressive-liberal causes. Due to his $1 billion in investment profits during the 1992 Black Wednesday UK currency crisis, he is known as ‘The Man Who Broke the Bank of England.’

Soros was born in Budapest, Hungary and grew up in a Jewish household. His father was an Esperantist writer. He grew up during the rise of Nazi Germany and also was a prisoner of war during and after World War I.

He then moved to England and graduated in Economics from the London School of Economics, with the financial help of his uncle. He later moved to New York and started his career as an arbitrage trader in F.M. Mayer and as an analyst for Wertheim & Co. He then started working for a bank called Singer & Friedlander and got introduced to the world of stock broking.
