Establishment: 1957 Madras University is the mother of almost all the Old Universities of Southern India. The University of Madras is one among the five Universities in India to receive the special status of ”University with potentials of Excellence" from the University Grants Commissions, New Delhi. This University has been growing from strength to strength while widening its teaching and research activities. The Department of Computer Science was instituted in the year 1987. The department has started three year M.C.A. program during 1987-88, which is being conducted until now.
