John F. Kennedy once told, `Anyone who can solve the problems of water is worthy of two Nobel prizes -- one for peace and one for science.'Quite aptly the elixir of life, scarcity of water is of the major issues that is being encountered all across the world. Today, while 2/3rd of the earth's crust is made up of water, this water is not fit for drinking or for any other human activity, since either it is locked in the form of ice or present in the form of long stretches of saline oceans and seas. So, clearly, there is only three percent of fresh water available to human use while the remaining 97 percent saline water comes to no help, neither for animals nor for humans. With half of this three percent fresh water being locked in glaciers as ice, only 0.01 percent is available to use. With huge volumes of wastewater pumped directly into rivers, streams and the ocean itself. Today, wastewater treatment process is one of the most important environmental conservation processes that should be encouraged worldwide. The reuse of treated wastewater has become a viable option to minimize water scarcity problems. The world has a growing and developing population and as things stand right now, we're on a downward slope in terms of water conservation. While the Government of India has already taken initiatives like clean Ganga initiative or the recently concluded commonwealth summit that iterated the goal of cleaning global oceans, and with the new rules which are being put in place to prevent industries and people from polluting water in the future, there is a positive movement towards this Saving the Elixir of Life.
