siliconindia | | May 20184With the current rate of waste disposal globally, we will soon be buried in the waste we create. While Statista claims that the market for waste management is expected to be sized at around $562 billion in 2020, a study by Global Market Insights reports that the global solid waste management market will reach $340 billion by 2024. United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs adds that the share of urban population across the globe is projected to reach 66 percent by 2050 when compared to 52 percent in 2014. On the other hand, MarketsandMarkets states that the industrial waste management market will grow to $1,442 billion by 2019 at a CAGR of 8.9 percent from 2014 to 2019. Despite such alarming numbers, we humans intend to keep generating waste (biodegradable, non-biodegradable, biomedical, e-waste, solid waste, industrial waste, and several others) and dispose it off without segregating it for proper waste management. This is causing damage not just to the environment but to the human body system as well having both direct and indirect health impact. The illegal dumping of waste mixed with mass untreated sewage is creating a water crisis not just threatening the residents' health but also causing the city's lakes to catch fire. While we speak of Delhi and Bengaluru, there are several other Indian cities that's catching up with them. Though we have neglected the waste management story for long, it is time for us to catch up with the global trends to recycle and reuse our waste, ensuring nothing goes waste in Nature. Hence it is imperative that the government takes necessary steps to counter the current situation and come up with eminent solutions. On the other hand, big societies, hotels and healthcare centers too can collaborate with waste management companies to ensure their generated wastes are treated efficiently to generate energy that can be consumed. Using latest technologies, waste management companies are working towards creating zero waste philosophy.
