SEPTEMBER 20164We have come a long way from picking travel & tour packages from a lot. Today, it is all about me; hence we select travel packages that give more personalized experience and reflect oneself. This is why travel companies are getting more data-rich, thanks to the evolving data technologies, but are insight-poor as they fail to interpret these data to create valuable decision making strategies. But the evolving specialized companies offering data and analytics services have rested much of their war. On the other hand, the challenge is finding and retaining such people who have passion for travel and knows the pulse of the market. Interacting with clients and understanding what they need and how they need is one of the keys to business success; the next being providing them with such customized and personalized services at a cost effective way that will make them come repeatedly to you. But in this multi-talented business world, it is becoming hard to find and retain individuals with the right blend of interpersonal and technical knowledge. But having a seasonal trait, the industry needs employees for a short duration, post which retaining and sustaining their expenses becomes a huge challenge for travel companies, thus no promising long-career. Hence the industry has to work on the developing and retaining an effective recruitment strategy to attract, employ, engage and retain them for long.People are currently exploring more inbound and outbound travel options; hopefully these apprehensions will soon eat the dirt. Seasons no more bound travellers, even in India, as they now opt for global destinations if the climate does not support within their country, or if their pocket allows them to do so. But with companies adopting new business model like Uber and becoming rather more of a service aggregator, the traditional travel companies will have tough time to survive the war. Hence, gaining and maintaining a competitive advantage is becoming more essential and tougher. However being an avid traveler myself, I feel the traveler community will only gain better service options, as for now it is all about the survival of the fittest.
