OCTOBER 20224Over the past few years, we have seen many women entrepreneurs in Chennai invading new domains and forging their empires. Be it healthcare, retail, logistics or brand building, women entrepreneurs are making their mark in every field. Tamilnadu's percentage of women entrepreneurs is 13.51 percent. Kerala stands next to Tamilnadu with a women entrepreneurship percentage of 11.35 percent. Next comes Andhra Pradesh. Andhra's percentage of women entrepreneurs is 10.56 percent. The fourth and fifth places are held by West Bengal and Maharashtra, whose percentages of women entrepreneurs are 10.33 and 8.25, respectively. Tamil Nadu has provided the country and the planet with valuable human assets. Many successful women hail from this state. More women entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu would headline page 1 and page 3 of Indian newspapers if not for barriers. Further pondering on the subject of motivation, a detailed analysis revealed that 88 percent of women want to make a contribution to employment. 80 percent of women had a desire to be independent. 55 percent of them want to generate more income and 39 percent want to prove themselves via their skills, the responses being mutually exclusive. Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) (PE/VC) firms have invested $508 million across 14 deals during the second quarter of 2022. Of this, nine deals worth $477 million were with firms headquartered in Tamil Nadu, while the remaining five deals worth $31 million were with firms, once headquartered here but have now moved close to potential investors. However, these firms continue to have majority of their operations in Tamil Nadu. In any metric that is growth related or based on socioeconomic development, Tamil Nadu ranks as one of the best states in the country.
