siliconindia | | July 20224Agriculture is the backbone of all developed countries. It uses 85% of available freshwater resources worldwide, and this per-centage continues to dominate water consumption because of population growth and increased food demand. Due to this, ef-ficient water management is the primary concern in many cropping sys-tems in arid and semi-arid areas. What's aggravating is that a considerable percentage of this water is lost due to inefficient and outdated irrigation techniques. For ages, farmers worldwide have had to be resourceful when rain fails to come, and the technologies like irrigation systems to overcome water deficits and maximize crop yields. The process of farming leads to less waste and is more predictable for growers. Irrigation technology is set to fix these problems through IoT-powered agricultural sensors that enable farmers to monitor field conditions closely and adjust irrigation practices accordingly. It results in more efficient wa-ter management, higher crop yields, and lower costs. Innovation is more important in modern agriculture than ever before. The industry is facing enormous challenges, from rising prices of supplies, a shortage of labour, and changes in consumer preferences for transparency and sustainability. There is increasing recognition from agriculture corporations that solutions are needed for these challenges. In recent decades, the Greenhouse industry has transformed from small-scale facilities used primarily for research and aesthetic purposes to significantly more large-scale facilities that compete directly with land-based conventional food production. The modernization of the irrigation systems offers the farmers several possibilities to expand the economic productivity of water. However, the problem of feeding the world's increasing demands does not have an easy solution from the irrigation point of view. Do let us know what you think.
