Interestingly, the standards that businesses and consumers have connected to last mile delivery are continually increasing due to improvements in logistics and delivery technology, fueling the country's on-demand economy. As standards and demand for on-demand delivery and transportation in-creases, so is the role of companies as a premium service in the delivery of products. In a 2014 McKinsey report on logistics trends, same-day delivery was considered the next evolutionary step in parcel logistics. As a young industry experiencing tremendous growth, same-day delivery services segment at present is all set to fulfil the increasing demand. A new set of competitors - on-demand urban delivery providers have ventured in the B2C delivery market. These start-ups are offering a different form of service by integrating demand aggregation via their own mobile plat-forms with dedicated in-house operations to enable (almost) instant de-livery. Also, with much advanced automated technologies and methods like the geographical information system, they are optimizing the net-work, accelerating the delivery speed and improving services. In a nutshell, such start-ups are striking a chord with consumers and their impact on urban consumers' expectations is lasting: shoppers have grown fond of having the city at their fingertips. Given this renewed attention to and scope for service enhancements, the same-day formula in retail could come full circle. As same-day delivery stands to outgrow instant delivery by ten to one, it could revamp the urban shopping and delivery landscape.Do let us know your thoughts.Nandini MukherjeeManaging EditorConvenience over Conventional EDITOR'S NOTE
