Worldwide, there are around 340 million occupational accidents and 160 million victims of work-related illness annually. Talking about India, an ILO report states that around 48,000 workers die in the country due to occupational hazards, of which the construction sector contributes 24.20 percent of the fatalities. Though the Government of India in 2009 declared a National Policy on Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) at workplace to enhance the well-being of employees and the society at large (including environmental concerns & human capital operating safely to succeed in the future), the country yet has to witness its implementation stringently due to lack of manpower and experts to carry-out the process. Hence in the recent times, safety consulting as an industry has been growing tremendously. According to a global research fi rm Reportlinker, the global EHS market is expected to grow from $4.36 billion in 2017 to $7.38 billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 11.1 percent during the forecast period. Looking at the growing demand, the safety consulting market is maturing fast, with players having diverse scales, capabilities and clientele types. With fi rms going global, seeking to cut costs or add a strategic element to their EHS management, the safety consulting market is gearing-up for the global need. Moreover, the move towards making better social impact is pushing the EHS consultants to position investments for improvement and align management with the future needs.
