siliconindia | | April 20224Over the centuries, surface and ground waters have been a source of water supply for agricultural, municipal, and industrial con-sumers. But today, water management companies played a major role to overcome the scarcity of water. These companies have benefited both people and thecity administration from many centu-ries. The services provided by such companies are multiple. Yet in many regions of the world they are not able to meet even basic drinking water and sanitation needs. Under the rainwater harvesting projects initiated by the non-profit organization The Climate Reality Project, four villages in Ambegaon taluka of Pune district are now water sufficient and do not need any water tankers. India includes regions that are highly climate threatened. The major issues of Climate change are water scarcity, floods, droughts etc. But the best solution for water scarcity is rainwater harvesting, which not only provides clean water but reduces soil erosion and flood hazards by collecting rainwater. Today, the rainwater harvesting companies have taken a holistic ap-proach that implies managing rainwater in a new integrated way, with a focus on considering the whole urban water cycle as one system within the watershed; aiming for water security through diversity and optimum use of all potential sources of water and matching water quality with purpose of use, aiming for a better utilization of natural systems for water like using rainwater catchment systems as a potential source; better managing use of water, effluents and water demand and hygiene behavior. We believe that rainwater harvesting is a viable technology in an urban setting. All that is necessary to take advantage of this resource is to capture the free water fall-ing on your roof and direct it to a rainwater storage tank. By doing this, you can take control of your water supply and replace all or at least a substantial portion of your water needs. Rainwater harvesting systems can be config-ured to supply your whole house and/or your landscape needs. In this edition, we focus on some of the emerging and innovative com-panies that have meticulously changed the course of rainwater back to our home.
