siliconindia | | December 20184Under the Pharma Vision 2020, the Indian government is committed to making India one of the world's leading destinations for end-to-end drug discovery and innova-tion center. Although the country is already crowned with being the world's leading supplier of low-cost generic medicines, India yet has to travel the moon to achieve its vision 2020. How-ever, in the recent times, in the FY18, Indian pharma companies have invested 8.8 percent of their sales in R&D (HDFC Securities, R&D); thanks to the increasing private sector investments, the coun-try is making small but impactful move towards accomplishing their dreams. This is why IBEF claims that the Indian pharmaceutical industry will expand at a CAGR of 22.4 percent over 2015-20 to reach $55 billion. But the country lacks a strong policy for IP rights, clarity on pat-ent laws and its enforcement. This is resulting in slow growth. While funding is the much needed fuel to take the industry to zenith, IPR gives the right encouragement to do it, while also giving the research-er the much needed recognition. The industry and the government need to work hand in gloves to help the industry realize its poten-tial beyond just being a cost effective destination for the world to outsource their service. While there are few pharmaceutical products and service com-panies who have been doing their part of innovation and research beyond the limitation, we have tried to bring them under one umbrel-la and featured them in our current issue of siliconindia Healthcare `20 Most Promising Pharmaceutical Products & Service Providers - 2018'. The list encompasses such companies who have been winning clients globally with their innovative products that they manufacture in-house.Do let us know what you think!
