siliconindia | | December 20188hile India has been a home for successful IT majors, we are yet to witness an unicorn emerging out of India which is fundamentally rooted in hardware who can take innovative ideas from `concept-to-product'. In this brief article an attempt is being made and try answering the following questions such as Is there an opportunity in India to build a hardware centric unicorn? Any attempts made in building one? How successful the attempts were? What it takes to build one?Is there an opportunity to build hardware-centric unicorn in India?Over the last couple of decades India has been the epicentre of consumer demand fuelled by a phenomenal GDP growth. Demand for high-technology products, specifically electronic products have registered significant growth and going by current estimates, the demand for electronics hardware in the country is projected to increase from $45 billion in 2009 to $400 billion by 2020. The Government has setup several initiatives for the development of electronics sector in the country. While the demand for electronics is very clear and huge, to tap this opportunity there is an urgent need for companies based in India to come-up with products which can address the Indian market demand. Is this happening? Emerging ESDM Ecosystem With the democratization of Innovation in the emerging ESDM ecosystem, product ideas/solutions can emerge from the most unlikely sources, which need to be taped and realized as products which can cater to our market demand. No longer are Innovation, Implementation, Manufacturing and Marketing happening under a single roof or under one logo in the emerging ESDM ecosystem.
