Nevertheless, Research has advanced the understanding of psychiatric disorders and made major contributions to their treatment. Just as the world is constantly changing, so do the patterns of mental problems are increasing part of the health problems the world over. Over past several decades, the model of mental health care has changed from the institutionalization of individuals suffering from mental disorders to a community care approach since conditions like schizophrenia, autism, dyslexia and more, that once were treated in closed institutions are being treated in general hospitals, in primary care services and through interventions at home. Mental illness can be triggered by multiple factors. Complex interactions between mind, body and environment result in psychological disorders. Mental health in India is still a fairly new topic and the mental health myths and taboos attached to this subject are prevalent to this date. Statistics show that 1 in every 5 individuals suffers from some form of mental health illness symptoms. 50 percent of mental health conditions begin by age 14 and 75 percent of mental health conditions develop by age 24. According to the National Health program by the Ministry of health and family welfare, 6 percent of Kerala's population has mental disorders. 1 in a 5 has some emotional and behavioural problems. Close to 60 to 70 million people in the country suffer from common and severe mental disorders. India is the world's suicide capital with over 2.6 lakh cases of suicide in a year. WHO statistics say the average suicide rate in India is 10.9 for every lakh people. All WHO Member States are committed to implementing the "Comprehensive mental health action plan 2013­2030", which aims to improve mental health by strengthening effective leadership and governance, providing comprehensive, integrated and responsive community-based care, implementing promotion and prevention strategies, and strengthening information systems, evidence and research.All people perceive life differently. This perception of life is intricately related to one's health and well-being. The knowledge about individual's perception of life around him can be utilized to improve health and productivity.
