NOVEMBER 20224It goes without saying that women entrepreneurs are an important part of our society. Their contribution in terms of economic development as well as social well-being, cannot be undermined. This was reinforced in the state of Maharashtra, when The Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (MACCIA) launched a women entrepreneurs' development programme from Nashik, in April 2022, basically to promote startups and businesses headed by women. The aim was "to encourage women entrepreneurs and to increase the representation of women entrepreneurs in start-ups and entrepreneurship sectors", said Nawab Malik, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister. Maharashtra has given some dynamic leaders & entrepreneurs in the near past. Kalpana Saroj, the first female Indian Entrepreneur and a Tedx speaker, born in Roperkheda village in Maharashtra, India. Described as the original "Slumdog Millionaire", she was bought the distressed assets of Kamani Tubes Company and successfully steered the company back to profits. Particularly, Pune is one of the most beloved cities in India and a favourite among single working professionals throughout the country. Pune's large tech talent pool, Maharashtra's innovation-friendly legislation, and other factors have all contributed to the startup ecosystem's expansion. Recent research from the Centre for American Entrepreneurship dubbed it a "emerging global startup powerhouse". Pune, a satellite city located about 75 miles from Mumbai, India's financial hub, has earned a number of nicknames over the years, including "Oxford of the East", "Maharashtra's Cultural Capital," and "India's Upcoming Metro". The Maharashtra government's innovation-friendly policies and activities have been credited with a large portion of Pune's emergence as a startup cluster. Add to that the city's booming IT/ITeS and automotive sectors, accessibility to a top-notch education system, affordable housing, a large pool of IT talent, and a pleasant climate. TiE Pune, a nonprofit association of business owners, angel investors, and government employees, is also playing a vital part in the growth of Pune's startup ecosystem.Emmanuel Christi DasManaging Editoreditor@siliconindia.comWE (Women Entrepreneur) mean BusinessEDITOR'S NOTEDesigner Tushar Das siliconindia Vol 7 · Issue 8 - 1 · NOVEMBER- 2022 Publisher Alok Chaturvedi Managing Editor Emmanuel Christi Das Assistant Editor Heena Kousar Editorial Team Shivani Pradhan Honey Kumari Akankha Chak Sales & Marketing Sahana N Poojary Editorial Queries startupcity@siliconindia.com To subscribe Visit: www.siliconindia.com/subscribe/ Magazine Price is Rs. 150 per issue.Printed and Published By Alok Chaturvedi on behalf of Silicon Media Technologies Pvt Ltd. and Printed at Precision Fototype Services at Sri Sabari Shopping Complex, 24 Residency Road Bangalore-560025 and Published At No. 124, 2nd Floor, Surya Chambers, Old Airport Road, Murugeshpalya, Bangalore-560017.
