MAY 20194They say the consumer is the king. That's apt; considering that it is consumers' preferences that are defining and paving way for the future of content. With the amount of qualitative content in the digital space, there is something for everybody. Industry reports suggest that the rapid expansion of on-demand video and music streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify is expected to cause the internet publishing and broadcasting industry to grow by 16.5 per cent in 2018-19, to $2.9 billion. This growth is off the back of the continued strong performance of online advertisers, as consumers have transitioned to digital services and away from traditional print media. The number of startups in this industry has increased over the past five years due to low entry barriers for internet-based businesses. Major players that offer content across multiple channels, such as smartphone apps, are likely to outperform industry growth. The growth is vindicating the early efforts of seasoned entrepreneurs and attracting global investors, brands, and startups. The opportunity is altering the contours of the industry.
