siliconindia | | June 20186India is currently one of the fastest developing countries of the world, not just in terms of economy but also in terms of its population. The world's second most populous nation, India will surpass China by 2022 (as per the UN). This means the country will see several small villages developing into large, while large rural areas entering the urbanization zone. This also means that the requirement of various products will grow many fold, needing more trucking to support this supply growth. The growth is surely a blessing in disguise for the trucking industry, which has not witnessed much revolution in the past few decades. But now, with customer satisfaction becoming the ultimate goal, the hire carrier industry has evolved from just transporting goods from one place to another to offer value added services like packaging, last mile delivery, warehousing, and supply chain management apart from cash-back options if they fail to deliver on time. With the implementation of GST, the trucking sector is able to breathe freely, as trucks can now travel the length and breadth of the country. This requires trucks that can make such journeys, are built for greater power and great speed. But what has remained unchanged since the start of the trucking industry in India is the condition of drivers. However, last year, the transport ministry gave the truck manufacturers the option of either fit an AC for the cabin or with the truck cabin ventilation system in all new trucks to be manufactured from this January which will help our unsung heros enjoy their long journeys. Additionally the Honourable Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Nitin Gadkari's vision to offer wayside amenities along highways to drivers will ensure better working conditions for the pilots, and attract more people to the role. Our current edition of siliconindia has tried to delve a little deeper into the hire carrier industry and learn more about the current and emerging trends within the industry while featuring some of the eminent names in our `20 Most Promising Hire Carrier Service Providers - 2018', that are mutating the industry for the better while improving the condition for our pilots to take off their trucks with curves on their face.
