SEPTEMBER 20164The growing population and awareness towards healthcare act as the pedigree for the booming healthcare segment across the world. India's healthcare sector is expected to be $280 billion in size by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 16 percent, reported Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Adding fuel to supercharge this run are the various initiatives launched by the Modi government, such as Digital India campaign, and e-Health. The recently launched Startup India, Standup India Action Plan from the government has opened up avenues of opportunity for startups to enter into this field. Investors too are now keen on putting their eggs in the healthcare basket which rather showed reduced inflow into the sector in the past. In the last few months, startups like Puro Wellness, Cult, Curefit, HEAL Institute, Modasta, Tiyo, PharmaRack, HealthKart, and several others have successfully grabbed huge investments from various investors. The $18 billion healthcare technology company GE Health-care recently announced the launch of its first healthcare accel-erator five.eight aimed at improving healthcare outcomes for the world's developing economies, with focus on healthcare startups and a vision to improve healthcare quality and acces-sibility in developing or low-resource setting from education training to disruptive, low-cost technologies and digital applica-tions. This will surely add more value to the entire ecosystem, which calls for more such initiatives from the big brothers of the sector. But there still lies a huge disconnect when it comes to connecting the providers and the recipients of the healthcare services. We at siliconindia startupcity decided to come up with a dedicated edition to bring forth some of the interesting stories and innovations from healthcare startups. Hope their stories will encourage others to put their innovative feet out to explore and experiment for a better healthcare not just within the country but across the globe.
