siliconindia | | APRIL 20255Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, however women in India are often made to overlook their health conditions. Women in India face disproportionately high risks for certain diseases due to a complex interplay of socioeconomic factors, cultural norms, and limited access to healthcare, leading to conditions like anemia, reproductive health problems, and cancers. Amongst many diseases prevalent across female demography, women are faced with high risks of gynecological cancers today. According to stats, the projected burden of cervical cancer in India for 2025 was estimated to be 1.5 million DALYs (Disability-Adjusted Life Years), with 1.4 million DALYs contributed by YLL (Years of life lost). This projection indicated a downward trend, with a 3.4 percent reduction in the cervical cancer burden in India from 2021 to 2025. Notably, factors such as genetics, exposure to some STIs like HPV, smoking, and environmental exposures do make gynecological cancers more likely to occur.Revolutionizing the women healthcare space, gynecologic oncologists are the major specialists who offer an integrated approach to the diagnosis and surgical management of cancerous and noncancerous (benign) conditions of the female reproductive system.
