DECEMBER 20184Goa's identity has always been synonymous with fun, frolic and all things touristy. But over the past few years, Goa is all set to leverage its strengths and become the next startup hotspot in India. A not so known fact is that Goa was among the first four states in India to implement a Startup Policy. The state is fast becoming a preferred destination in the startup space as it is in tourism, evidenced by a revamped startup policy announced in 2017. Industry experts believe while Goa has the advantage of availability of a large number of engineering graduates from the colleges here, there are other unconventional areas such as food processing, clean technologies and solid waste management that are focus areas for the state government and are attracting young entrepreneurs to the state. The state is also encouraging innovation and technology, not to miss mentioning of an enviable work-life balance as well as a progressive government that is committed to supporting startups and help them succeed. And a supportive state government that is paring the red tape is also one of the major reasons behind the phenomenal development. Interestingly, the Goa government has recently unveiled a start-up policy that aims to make the coastal state feature among the top 25 destinations for early stage companies in Asia by 2025. The policy is likely to play a key role in facilitating an environment that is supportive and makes the start-ups both technologically innovative and globally competitive. Keeping in mind all these developments, our current edition features a list of "10 Best Startups in Goa".
