siliconindia | | July 20194From farm to kitchen, food is changing its shape, size and form very often. In the modern world where busy schedule is next to breathing, the processed food market is gaining significant importance and is a sigh of relief for many of us. But picking those processed food packets without proper research could be a big setback for your health. We as humans fall for the beautiful and colourful packaging rather than going into the details of what these packages are made-up of. The high use of chemicals in packaging products results in life threatening diseases like cancer, endocrine disruptions, and more. Though packaging is meant to provide food information, it never provides details of what it is made-up of. Hence, it becomes more important for the food and beverage industry to ensure sound health of its consumers by picking packaging materials that are chemical-free and biodegradable. With the growing disposable income, and fast-changing consumer food & beverage preferences, the global food and beverage market is expected to reach around $9471.66 billion by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 8.9 percent during the forecast period. Even in 2017, the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that food processing will be one of the principal industries of India in the future (expected to reach $540 billion in 2020) and an entrepreneur in 2017 should think of the industry from the perspective of where it will be in 2040, 2050. This growth vests more responsibility on the shoulders of the industry. While measures and steps should be taken to reduce the usage of chemically treated food & beverage and packaging materials, it is in the best interest of all the stakeholders to embrace organic and biodegradable packaging materials. To cater to this need of the industry, our current edition of siliconindia Magazine focuses on `10 Most Promising Food & Beverages Packaging Companies 2019', and `10 Most Promising Food & Beverages Processing Companies 2019'.
