siliconindia | | June 20184Taking a Step at a TimeInfertility still remains a social burden for women globally. Though men contribute over 50 percent of the global infertility numbers (186 million as per 2015 stats), this social stigma puts a larger dent on the mental and physical wellbeing of women. While there are several reasons for this downfall, including the late marriages, poor diagnosis too play a crucial role in turning the situation worst over a period of time. It is not just the physical wellbeing that doctors now need to look at, but a frontal treatment that focuses on preparing them psychologically is indeed the need of the hour as several researches tie infertility to male depression and female antidepressant use. When looking at the Indian scenario, Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction claims that infertility currently affects about 10-14 percent Indian population, with higher rates in urban areas where one out of six couples is impacted. Nearly 27.5 million couples actively trying to conceive suffer from infertility in India. In India, infertility is still a highly under-researched area that needs intense focus from the fraternity to address this treacherous issue. While fertility treatments does not always guarantee success, the patients need to understand the process and take a step at a time. Today, several couples bypass the tests to determine their fertility quotient, and go directly to infertility specialists. We delved deep into the matter further and discussed the issue with several doctors and fertility clinics.
