But there is also another side to this: does this mean that seniors are robbed-off their rights to independent decision-making, private life and right to make choices? Does this saying, devalue older adults in the process?Culturally in India (or Asia), parenting is treated very differently from the western world. It is not sur-prising to see a 20 year old ask permission from his parents for a night out with his friends and neither is it surprising to see an 80 year old seek agreement from their children (read new parents) before buying new equipment. Either ways, the veto powers lie with the parent. Some choose to involve the children and some don't. It is a lot to do with financial dependence; there is no denying about the fact.
