Known as the youngest country now, around 25 percent of India's population will represent people over the age of 60. With the breakdown of the joint family model, the concept for senior living will gain traction. Global dreams for young professionals will further add fire to this new trend of elderly care. But most of the elderly care services are targeted towards the upper-middle class group, leaving the low-income group elders in alienation. According to a CII report on senior care industry, seniors make around nine percent (116 million) of the total population, of which around 39 million are urban seniors, while 77 millions are rural seniors. Also, the rise of single seniors will further push the need for elderly care service providers. Data Bridge Market Research's report on Elderly Care Report 2018 states that the global elderly care market accounted for $863.7 billion in 2016, growing at a CAGR of 8.4 percent during the forecast period of 2017-20024. While the market in the developed nations are quite matured ensuring proper care for senior citizens, India is still taking baby steps. The country has a lot to learn and improvise according to its geography and demography, and yes, putting the needs of senior citizens on the top. Enlarging their vision beyond urban areas, the service providers need to reach the rural populace, who are left high and dry, both by their family and the limping rural healthcare sector.
