Our Indian way of life was always close to nature with natural and sustainable products being an integral part of our life. One can still observe a plethora of traditionally used eco-friendly products that are still in use across the country. However, somewhere over the past few decades we have lost touch with our traditional way of life. The current generation grew up with modern day things becoming an integral part of their lives. Be it brass utensils being replaced with stainless steel ones or our homegrown fabrics being exchanged for factory produced fabrics, the examples are a plenty. Additionally, environment health has also emerged as an area of concern for the entire globe. With environmental issues such as climate change, resource scarcity, and pollution gaining prominence, the situation has been growing grim at a rapid pace. It is pertinent to note that not all is lost. These dire situations have given rise to a new and young breed of entrepreneurs and consumers who are committed to the sustainable and natural way of life. Collectively called `eco-friendly products', today this concept is being used in almost all the sectors like food packaging, variety of bags, home decors, toys, crafts, beauty brands, garments and many more.Aimed at finding solutions to environmental problems such as plastic waste, the startup design and manufacture eco-friendly handbags, and few startups are into eco-friendly toys, crafts, activity boxes that focus on children education. Some startups creates garments using only natural fabrics, azo-free eco-friendly dyes, and clothes made from natural materials such as wood, coconut, and so on. Similarly, nobody had heard of eco-friendly paints or LED lights in the past but there are now many such innovative products on the market.Along with these young enterprises, there has also been an awakening of sorts in terms of consumers. More and more consumers are now actively seeking eco-friendly products to use. We at StartupCity magazine are an ardent ally of the sustainable and eco-friendly movement that has captured the imagination of the startup community and consumer psyche alike.
