siliconindia | | December 20175 Since the past one year, the economical stability of the country has been continuously questioned. Not a single day went without discussing the crests and troughs of demonetization and implementation of GST. The burnt was felt all across the class of society, but soon recovered as these measures resulted in increased business for several companies. Miffed with monthly filing of GST returns, the resentment of businessmen led the government bring about several reforms in the GST. However, one cannot deny GST being the turning point in the India's economic story and its claim to be the country's biggest-ever tax reform. While the government is flexible enough to amend this tax reform, with time, things will change for better and will only help companies grow further without being much worried. On the other hand, to give greater push to digital transactions, the government has decided to bear the merchant discount rate (MDR) charges on debit card transactions up to Rs.2000 for two years, beginning this January. This move will surely be a stepping stone in the process of taking the country toward being less-cash economy. Even the RBI has come up with differentiated MDRs for debit card transactions, prescribing separate caps for small and large traders. This will bring more transparency in the economic books of the country, enabling businesses shift their focus from these to taking more strategic decisions and implementing it in accordance with the government. While talking to several entrepreneurs for our current issue of `Company of the Year 2017', we sharply saw the shift from angst to energy and their commitment towards creating a more transparent and dignified ecosystem that will be on par with the global standards. Despite so much of fuss making rounds, these entrepreneurs are quite clear in their vision and strategies, which is what differentiates them from the others. I believe their stories have the gravity to inspire you and give you more power.
