siliconindia | | December 20189As technology evolves it brings new opportunities, and we need to adapt the changing ways in order to improve our current state. The year 2019 looks to be a packed year, with new shifts in technologythe music. Going forward, we can expect the usage of AI assistant for many more activities, may be for verifying the traffic status or purchasing online or book flight tick-ets and many more. Apart from end user, 2019 is believed to be the year for organizations & technology compa-nies that are leveraging their big data wisely, in order to achieve their business goals using AI.Immersive TechnologiesPerception for immersive technologies like Virtual Real-ity (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR) is still limited to hard-core gamers and entertainment en-thusiast, while in 2019 these technologies will hold op-portunities across a variety of industries. For instance, `Marketing' is a strong arena for virtual & augmented reality. Motion pictures like Star Wars, Jurassic World, Insurgent and more others have released VR experiences to generate interest, excitement, and a strong memory as-sociated with the brand. Apart from this, Virtual reality is a technology that is taking shape in many retail shops to make it easy for customers to make purchasing decisions on items. The retailer are creating virtual environment to make it easy for customers to shop. For instance, in 2016 Ikea launched its Virtual Reality Kitchen Experience in Australia to help customers discover kitchen features and imagine how they would feel in their own home. Accord-ing to Gartner, by 2022, 70 percent of enterprises will be experimenting with immersive technologies for both con-sumer and enterprise use and 25 percent will have them deployed in production.Edge ComputingCloud computing has been a buzzword for quite a long-time and organizations have been leveraging the technol-ogy from past few years. However, there are limitations to it, as more and more devices are getting digitized, and more importantly, staying connected to the cloud for functioning optimally, there's only so much that cloud computing can accommodate. That is why Edge Com-puting is emerging as a trend. Edge computing enables immediate responses without waiting for data to pass into & out of the cloud. The year 2019 holds a huge scope for organizations to implement this technology and make use of faster & accurate data processing and transferring through a cluster of edge computing network.5G DeploymentYes, we have been talking about 5G for a while; however, telecom operators and other industry players are making big bets on next-generation services for 2019 with a re-newed focus on making it accessible for the masses. Apart from enhancing end users experience, 5G will also play a key role on the business front. 5G will allow faster down-load and data transfer and will empower business appli-cations through which we can experience better services than ever before. 5G is foreseen to bring numerous advan-tages to the large & small businesses; however it will take few more years for large scale expansion.I would like to conclude with a quote from François de La Rochefoucauld `The only thing constant in life is change'. As technology evolves it brings new opportu-nities, and we need to adapt the changing ways in order to improve our current state. The year 2019 looks to be a packed year, with new shifts in technology. Howev-er, it could be too early to predict how these trends will manifest themselves and which of the above will rule the roost. We still have to wait and watch how these trends will emerge in 2019. Nonetheless, there is a lot to be aflutter about. Arati Naik
