It almost seems like yesterday that we saw the emergence of cloud computing. In just a short span, cloud tech has become one of the most critical supports for our modern-day tech-heavy lives. Whether it's enabling banks and movie streaming sites to stay connected with users, or allowing startups to boost productivity through greater collaboration, the cloud is now a regular feature in IT decision making. But what are the trends in this fast-evolving market, where do we find ourselves now, and where is this industry headed? Here's a quick look at the state of the cloud industry in 2016:Emergence of the Hybrid CloudSecurity remains perhaps the biggest worry about shifting your data and systems to the cloud. But there's a way to mitigate your concerns - hybrid cloud. A trend that's picked up steam over the past year or so, and is now one of the hottest new trends, the hybrid cloud ties together on-premise cloud `appliances', private cloud networks, and `public' clouds, with users getting to decide how and where their sensitive data is stored. This can be especially useful for organizations dealing with financial and medical records, and those bound by strict regulatory requirements. While private/on-premise cloud systems may not prove to be as cost-effective as the `normal' cloud, and may not be nearly as scalable, the benefits can outweigh the drawbacks for such industries. Apart from this, on-premise systems can offer faster-throughput as long as your systems are working within capacity. The hybrid cloud takes this a step further by offloading less mission-critical tasks and data to the public cloud.Cloud Tech Replacing Legacy Systems Startups and professionals might have been the early adopters of cloud tech-nology and SaaS sys-tems. That makes sense as they did not have to worry about the risks of migration, and did not have a sunken investment that they had to first re-coup before moving to a new technology. Apart from this, the cloud's allure of greater reli-ability combined with lower costs often made it the only choice for many small firms. Now, as the cloud has finally become a part of the mainstream, larger enterprises and corporations will only accelerate their shift away from lega-cy systems and to the cloud.
