BANGALORE: Did you know "Ice cream taster" is a job? Or you can make a fortune being a Casino gamer? Though you have heard of these jobs, you will be surprised to know that these jobs can actually fetch more money. Interesting, isn’t it? Here is a list of 10 odd jobs with surprisingly high salaries, as compiled by The Richest.



#1.Sommelier



Average Salary: $80 000-$160 000



Sommeliers are trained and knowledgeable wine professionals, normally working in fine restaurants, who specialize in all aspects of wine service, as well as wine and food pairing. The role is much more complex than that of a wine waiter. The most important work of a sommelier is in the areas of wine procurement, wine storage, wine cellar rotation, and expert service to wine consumers.



In modern times, a Sommelier's role may be considered broader than working only with wines and may include all aspects of a restaurant's service, along with an improved focus on wines, beers, spirits, soft-drinks, cocktails, mineral waters, and tobaccos. Sommeliers make an average salary of $80 000 a year, which can go all the way up to $160 000.



#2.Funeral Service Manager



Average Salary:  $80,000



Funeral service managers, coordinate the services or resources of funeral homes. Their activities include such as determining prices for services or merchandise and managing the facilities of funeral homes. It’s quite a morbid job, but if you can handle the emotional aspect of it, it pays you quite well.  Funeral service managers make an average salary of $80 000 per year.

#3.Voice-Over Artist



Average Salary: $80 000



Voice-over artists are those who provide their voice for animated films, television shows, narrate documentaries and radio commercials. There is no actual training required, it takes talent, flexibility, imagination, and a little practice. Voice-over artists make an average salary of $80 000 per year.



#4.Geographer



Average Salary: $75 000



A Geographer is a scholar whose area of study is geography, the study of earth's natural environment and human society. They also examine phenomena, such as political or cultural structures, along with studying the physical and human geographic characteristics of a region, ranging in scale from local to global.



About half of all Geographers are employed by the federal government, most work full time during regular business hours. Many Geographers do fieldwork which may include travel to foreign countries or remote locations. A Geographer makes an average salary of $75 000 a year.



#5.Elevator Mechanic



Average Salary: $70 000-$80 000



An Elevator mechanic installs, fixes, and maintains elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and other lifts. Some workers are required to work overtime and some are on-call 24 hours, when important equipment needs repair. Nearly all Elevator mechanics learn through an apprenticeship, as there is no actual course or training. Currently, 35 states require workers to be licensed. An Elevator mechanic makes an average salary between $70 000 and $80 000/year.



#6. Casino Gamers



 Average Salary: $57 000-$85 000



Casino gaming managers are responsible for explaining and revising the rules of certain games in the casino, making sure the casino is following certain rules, and regulations and merging into the crowd to spot cheaters and prevent theft. Depending on the city and the casino, gaming managers can earn an average salary of almost $60 000 annually, which can increase up to $85 000 per year.

#7.Train Conductor



Average Salary: $58 000-$65 000



Train conductors, also known as guards or train crew, answer passengers’ questions about routes, arrival times, and connections. They also make sure that rail passengers have paid their fare and are safe and comfortable, during their journey. To do this job, excellent customer service skills and the ability to get on with a wide variety of people is needed, along with  a good memory to deal with fare and route enquiries.



Train conductors work 35 to 37 hours a week, possibly on a shift system including early mornings, late nights, and weekends. The median annual salary of a train conductor is between $58 000 and $65 000 per year.



#8.Ice Cream Taster



Average Salary: $56 000



Ice cream tasters are employed by dairy companies to taste different flavors of ice cream and  help create new ones. People hired as food tasters make an average of $56 000 a year and can go much higher than that, depending on the company they work for.



John Harrison is the Official Taste Tester of Dreyer’s company and is known as the “ice cream man,” he tastes an average of sixty ice cream flavors, on a daily basis. He has tasted more than a few hundred million gallons of ice cream and has helped in the creation of over hundred flavors. His taste buds are reportedly insured for a million dollars and he sticks to a very strict diet, so as not to affect his tasting skills. His annual salary is between $70 000 and $100 000, a year.

#9.Trash Collector



Average Salary:  $43 000-$60 000  



A Trash collector is a person employed by a public or private enterprise to collect and remove waste and recyclables from residential, commercial, industrial, or other collection site for further processing and disposal. While no education is formally required, there are some skills needed, such as a truck driver’s license and in some cases, a license to operate a forklift. Some trash collectors can make up to $60 000 per year, however, the majority make an average of about $43 000.



#10.Hot Dog Vendor



Average Salary:  $30 000 Plus



Hot dog vendors are those who sell hot dogs on the street, on a food cart.  These street vendors have to follow many health and safety regulations and  obey to particular limitations around the way their food cart is built  to keep within certain locations within the city. Hot dog vendors can make a steady salary of $30 000, a year and depending on demands, such as in busy cities like New York, street vendors make more money.
