Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
I was born in a poor family. My father was a mill mazdoor and we migrated to Pune when he lost his Mumbai job. My schooling and graduation was all while we lived in small rented house.
Working Life Management:
For first 15 years of my professional life, I was sort of nomadic roaming around the world & missed time with family. Since then, I have managed to draw a line. Am more flexible & aware about the needs of my family & spend quality time with them. Obviously, the gadgets have helped me be in balancing
Growth Strategy:
I keep meeting people, more so the ones who are better than me & who help me raise my bar. One of the reasons, I left the previous job was, I was the best and no one was there to challenge me. Apart from meeting the best of industry talent, I spend lot of time on net. Being member of Rotary helps.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
Young ones are more materialistic and more flexible. Commitment to organization is declining. 15-20 years back, we were willing to work hard, were more passionate about the job. It was employer's market. Now, the we look for opportunity to move on. But it has resulted in dipping satisfaction levels
Job Profile:
As CEO of the Kompkin, I drive the marketing and future plans of the organization. We are an IT company with a project with great social impact in the field of education, especially in rural India. As CEO, my role is to create awareness about importance of our mission internally as well as externall
Plans For The Future:
We started the organization with a mission to take technology led quality education at affordable costs to masses. We have already crossed a milestone of 500,000 school students. In 2 years time, we want to reach 1,000,000 students in remote village schools and Kompkin being leading brand in retail.
Career Profile:
I was Business Head 4 years back & now an Owner of Business. Though, in terms of responsibilities on paper, everything seems similar, there's sea difference in the approach when you have back to walls. My horizons have widened though from 100+ crores to 10- crores sales with more efforts/application
Role Model:
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam remains biggest inspiration. My first short meeting of 3 minutes with him inspired me to leave plush assignment & work at grassroot levels for masses. He spent 30 precious minutes at midnight during second visit to appreciate my efforts. His remains role model to ignite our minds
The Journey So Far:
I have always seen business from macro levels which has broadened my vision. From a trainee cost accountant to the youngest GM & Business Head was fantastic journey & exposure. Having my own business adds a lot of value thru meeting best professionals, new challanges, adversities, failures & glories
Prized Accomplishment(s):
Biggest one is being able to interact with my insperation APJ twice. My current project is being seen as model project by Rotary International in its efforts to eradicate illiteracy from South Asia by 2017. Bringing positive change & hopes in lives of 500,000+ underpriviliged children thru Kompkin
The Decisions That Matter
First important decision was to stick with one company & think as owner at every step. It ensured fast growth as a professional & recognition from company. Second, I never got stuck in specialization to a department which gave me immense exposure. Third, to select right time to exit & venture into n
