HYDERABAD:iSoft R&D Pvt. Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of iSoft Group Inc., a British healthcare solutions and services provider, has announced the opening of its second Indian R&D center in Hyderabad. iSoft R&D global product management director, Satya Kalki said, "The Hyderabad center would be primarily working on various phases of product development including delivery of the product. Besides, we would be setting up the global disaster recovery center for business continuity in Hyderabad." He further added that the Chennai team too works on most of the products developed for global markets and some or the other phase of every product is undertaken from the Indian center. The company that started its operations from Chennai in 2001 presently has an employee base of 1000 and intends to add 200 at the Hyderabad center by the end of 2005. Elaborating on the potential markets for iSoft's products, iSoft India CEO Ravan Boddu said, "We are a company grown out of the U.K. Our revenues have gone up from $32.1 million in 2001 to $281.6 million in 2004. We don't have any presence so far in the U.S. as far as business development is concerned, but we are looking at it." The company was looking at India for product development and not for business development citing infrastructure hurdles for various hospitals. Talking about the earmarked investments for furthering the expansion plans, Boddu said, "We have earmarked $100 million for the next three years (2004- 2007) and investment for the new center in Hyderabad will depend on the technology we use and the manpower we hire."
