iPod hits India with 24K price tag

NEW DELHI: After seeing a strong demand in the US, Apple has introduced its mini iPod MP3 music player in India. The much-hyped music player was launched in the US in March and its global release was delayed for more than three months due to strong demand among US consumers. Claimed to be the smallest music player to hold upto 1000 CD-quality songs, the mini iPod weighs 3.6 ounces. While the mini iPod is priced at Rs 20,500, Apple has also introduced fourth generation iPod players with a 20 GB model priced at Rs 22,100 and a 40 GB model for Rs 27,400. "The iPod mini has been a smash hit in the US; it has changed the way people listen to music and is now the number one digital music player in the world,'' says E Y Yeo, product marketing manager (portables), Apple, Asia Pacific. All iPod minis include ear bud headphones, an Apple iPod mini power adapter, a 1.2m 30-pin to FireWire cable, a 1.2m 30-pin to USB 2.0 cable and a CD with iTunes 4.6 for Mac and Windows computers. Optional accessories with the following suggested retail prices include the iPod mini Dock for 3100, in-ear headphones for Rs 3100 and armband for Rs 2000.iPod mini can be charged with either the FireWire or USB 2.0 cable and gets up to eight hours of battery life. Apple has sold 3million iPods worldwide and has streamlined the design and cut the price to ensure that they are still attractive when the minis go on sale.
