Zomato launches Restaurant Search Application

New Delhi: The online food and nightlife guide, Zomato.com, previously known as Foodiebay.com, launched a mobile application for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Headquartered in Gurgaon, the company has earlier launched its Android and Blackberry applications. The new application allows the users to search for nearby restaurants based on the user's location. The application is available free on the iTunes store or on www.zomato.com/ios, it replicates all features of the website and allows the user to look at the menus, contact details, reviews, photographs, locations and discounts for restaurants on the phone itself. With the first three hours of its launch, the application recorded over 1000 downloads and generated a large amount of buzz on social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook. With visitor strength of 600, 000 every month on its website, the company has now application on all major smartphone platforms. Deepinder Goyal, Co-Founder and CEO, Zomato, said, "We are of its kind of portal and local search player to develop an application for all three smartphone platforms. With the iOS launch, the users will be able to enjoy all the functionalities of our website on the iOS Zomato application." Started by IIT Delhi alumni in July 2008, the company cites its presence in nine cities across India, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad and Jaipur and has 50 employees. To fund its product development and marketing, Zomato recently raised an investment of 4.7 crore from Info Edge in August 2010.
