NEW DELHI: Welcome to the world of low-calorie biscuits made of banana peel, a herbal formulation for controlling larval growth, optically controlled wheelchair, advanced audio-video coding of data, and much more. These innovations and formulations, thought up by 10 young Indian innovators who have just returned from an International Exhibition of Young Inventors, could very well be the face of 21st century India. The exhibition was organised by the Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII) Aug 27-30 in Tokyo. The Indian innovators were sent to Tokyo as part of a joint initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Indian government's Department of Science and Technology. At a press interaction to felicitate the innovators, organised here Wednesday by CII, the 10 young minds shared their experiences in Tokyo and said their innovations were appreciated across the board. Minister of State for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said the government's task was to nurture talents and give them the confidence to grow. Sibal stressed on practical application of science and said that private-public partnership would be the key to nurturing talents and implementing the innovations for the ultimate benefit of the people. The government was committed to supporting fresh talents, he said, and called on industry to provide an enabling environment for young innovators.
