New Jersey: The Yogi Divine Society of New Jersey organized Annakoot Mohatsav on the juncture of Sharad Poornima to mark the commencement of the Hindu New Year in Parsipanny, New Jersey, reports Desi Talk. Sharad Purnima is associated with Sri Krishna Leela, the day is also referred as Raas Lila Divas or Ras Lila day. A fasting, Sharat Poornima Vrat, is also observed on the day in some regions by some Hindu communities. There is also a close connection between the moon and the Sharat Purnima day - the moon is believed to be close to the earth on the day and it is believed that moon's rays contain nourishing elements. Screens and tents were setup at various locations in the temple to accommodate the 2,000 devotees who visited the temple to get blessings and facilitate them in having darshan. The kirtan-bhakti and sabha started in the morning in presence of religious heads and dignitaries. More than 450 varieties of food were offered to the deities as part of the Annakoot. More than 100 youth volunteers built a replica of mountain Girnar, the Junagadh temple, and the scenes of Gunatitanand Swamiji, the prominent paramhansa who gave valuable contribution for spreading of the Swaminarayan Sampraday and Hariprasadad Swamiji's initiation into sainthood. Women devotees baked a cake that exactly resembled 'Naarayan Dharo' a place where Gunatitanand Swamiji meditated.
