Yahoo!, the leading global Internet communications, commerce and media company, will set up a research and development centre in Bangalore.

BANGALORE: Second only to the one in the U.S., the Yahoo! software development centre here will focus on building products in various areas for the company's business units across the globe. "We already have 100 people here and hope to scale up to 150 in another year. Our business is rapidly growing globally and our foray here is to tap the talent pool," Venkat Panchapakesan, CEO, told a news conference here. Panchapakesan declined to indicate investment but said: "Our focus is to build products by the highly talented people here. We are creating jobs here." The high-end technologies developed in India's tech capital will focus on data mining, data engineering, e-commerce, search, network services, classified platform, consumer services and enterprise services. "The centre will also provide customisation and technical support for the launch of Yahoo! products globally," said Bharat Vijay, founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO). The centre will be formally inaugurated next month.
