Bangalore: Followed by the announcement to remove 1,500 employees globally, Yahoo has laid off some 50 people, three percent of workforce, from its Indian subsidiary Yahoo India on Wednesday. The company is in the process to cut expenditure in the ground of economic downturn. According to the sources close to the company, a part of the layoff was based on performance, and the rest on job redundancies on account of consolidation. Speaking to The Times of India, a Yahoo employee pointed out that Yahoo's HotJobs division has almost wound up, with some employees being redeployed and others asked to go. The company is said to offer employees with severance packages and outbound placement services for the impacted employees. A spokesperson of the company said the Indian operations was notified about the layoffs on Tuesday and the process was completed on Wednesday. Apart from that, Yahoo India's Chief Information Officer Viswanathan Krishnamurthi has quit the company. He had expressed his desire to leave about three months ago; much before the company's layoff decision came.
