Hyderabad: Xilinx, the $2-billion California based chips and services company, is planning to bet on aviation, space, defence, WiMax, IPTV and mobile markets in India. The company claims that its breakthrough in complex programmable logic device (CPLD) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) technologies can spin substantial business in India. The company is also evaluating some Indian companies as target investments for its Asia-Pacific venture capital fund, reports The Economic Times. "Our technologies have major applications in defence, aviation and communication segments. The fast-growing WiMax and IPTV markets are the other areas of interest. We are highly focused on Indian market, which is witnessing fast growth. We are hunting for director and senior manager-level profiles in aerospace and defense segments for recruitment. The idea is to build relationships with government, industries and our other key partners. We are also evaluating companies for investment up to $10 million," said Krishna Rangasayee, Senior Director in vertical markets and partnerships, Xilinx. Rangasayee was speaking on the sidelines of Programmable Solutions India 2007, a national conference of chip solution companies held at Hyderabad on Thursday. Xilinx has earlier identified Noida-based CG CoreEL as the first recipient of its $75-million corporate venture capital fund, Asia Pacific Technology Fund. The global market for programmable logic devices (PLD) that includes FPGA and CPLD segments is around $4.5 billion. In addition, Xilinx claims that it has 55 percent market share in the segment. The market for this in India is estimated to be $35 million and is poised to grow substantially. "India will have 90 million mobile connections in the next three years which will be a great market for products such as CPLD. Our low-powered CPLD is a breakthrough and can be used in all mobile and other communication devices. The technology can also be used in the automotive segment," said Rangasayee. The company is also planning to establish a global technical support centre in Hyderabad with 20 employees initially.
