Xenitis to make mobile phone handsets

Kolkata: The Xenitis Group plans to set up a facility to manufacture mobile phone handsets in Hooghly district of West Bengal in the current financial year, Xenitis chairman Santanu Ghosh said here Wednesday. "We have already started working on the project. The cellphone manufacturing unit will be set up in Hooghly district of West Bengal. It will be the first mobile phone handset manufacturing unit in the country," said Ghosh. He said the total volume of India's mobile phone industry is expected to grow from 168 million to 500 million by 2010. "The company's Hooghly facility will manufacture its own products and function as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) unit as well. The facility is expected to start by Dec-Jan," informed Ghosh. Speaking on the expansion plans, he said Xenitis is targeting 18 billion turnover in the next fiscal. The company aims to become a 50-billion company by 2010, Ghosh said. In the first half of current fiscal, the company has achieved a turnover of 5.2 billion. Xenitis has also started manufacturing hi-tech products like TFT monitors and computer motherboards in the IT segment at its Hooghly unit.
