Panaji: The world's smallest echo-cardiogram (ECG) machine will be unveiled at an international echocardiography conference to be held in Goa next week, conference officials said. Addressing a press conference in Panaji Thursday, Digambar Naik, organising secretary of the 15th annual conference of the Indian Academy of Echocardiography, said that the echo cardiogram machine, manufactured by Phillips, is the smallest ECG device available yet. "Its miniature, it's portable, its affordable and it's a landmark development in the field of echocardiography. With this, most heart specialists can diagnose patients in their clinics, instead of sending them elsewhere for pathological examination," Naik said. The conference will be attended by nearly 600 doctors from throughout India. Alabama-based Navin Nanda, who is known as the father of echo cardiography in the world of medicine will also be present at the conference, leading echo cardiographer Francisco Colaco said. The four-day conference, which begins Feb 11, will also be attended by J L Zamorano, the president of the European association of echo cardiography. "We have lined up 60 experts who will conduct sessions on various aspects of echo cardiography," Naik said.
