World's Worst Air Crashes in Past 5 Years


Bangalore: Yet again a devastating air crash was reported on Friday where a Pakistani airliner with 127 people on board crashed in Islamabad. The crash was scattering wreckage and left no sign of survivors. The Bhoja Air Boeing 737 was flying from Karachi to Islamabad and crashed on its approach to the airport during a storm. This incident is a reminder of the worst air crashes so far. Over the past five years, the worst crashes worldwide have been:

July 28, 2010, Pakistan:

A domestic passenger flight crashed on 28 July 2010 near Islamabad, killing all 152 people on board. The aircraft crashed into a hillside. Air traffic controllers allegedly lost contact with the flight crew during its attempt to land in dense fog and heavy monsoon rain. It was one of the most deadly air crashes in Pakistan. Furthermore, the accident was the first fatal crash concerning an Airbus A321.

 

May 22, 2010, India:

An Air India Boeing 737, passenger service from Dubai to Mangalore had crashed on 22 May, 2010. The flight overshot the runway on landing, fell over a cliff and caught fire, spreading wreckage across the surrounding hillside. Only eight passengers had survived of the 160 passengers and six crew members on board. This was the second time that an aircraft had overshot the runway at Mangalore. The crash was the third deadliest aviation disaster in India.
