Lucknow: A World Bank official on Monday lauded an operative in Uttar Pradesh for streamlining the procedures for setting up industrial units, saying the system would go a long way to facilitate development of micro, small and medium enterprises in the state. "It is heartening to know that Uttar Pradesh already has a web-enabled single table system (WESTS) in place and we are here to explore areas where we can provide our expertise and experience to improve the system and make it more effective," said World Bank Institute lead economist Qimiao Fan here. Qimiao was leading a three-member World Bank Institute team to the state. The World Bank Institute is a capacity enhancing arm of the World Bank. He offered the World Bank's help in training government officials at district level for better implementation and coordination among various departments involved in issuing clearances. "It is incumbent on the government to reduce number of clearances to minimum to set up a industry for the success of WESTS, as we have seen in Australia and South Korea," he said. With the introduction of WESTS, it has been possible to instil a sense of transparency, time bound clearance and much sought after information about various procedures is available at the click of a mouse.
