Wireless connectivity for Apple's iPad to be provided by AT&T

Bangalore: AT&T will be the exclusive provider of third-generation wireless connections to the Internet for Apple's new iPad tablet device, reports Dallas Business Journal. Steve Jobs, CEO of California based Apple, unveiled the gadget at a much-anticipated event in San Francisco. Weighing 1.5 pounds, the iPad is being pushed as an alternative to laptops, netbooks and wireless phones for activities such as reading books and playing games. The iPad will range in price from $499 to $829, depending on how much memory it has and the type of wireless connection to the Web it has, an Apple press release said. The device comes with two pay-as-you go wireless data plans, one costing $14.99 monthly for 250 megabytes, the other $29.99 for unlimited use. Models of the iPad equipped for Wi-Fi wireless connections will be available in 60 days; versions equipped with faster, third-generation Internet wireless links will come out in 90 days, according to the Wall Street Journal.
