Wipro opens development centre in Melbourne

Bangalore: Wipro Technologies announced the inauguration of its Melbourne development centre, which will provide consulting, software development, testing and business process services to domestic and global firms in Australia. Wipro started operations in Australia in 2002 and today has a strong customer base across the region with operations in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. According to the company, Melbourne was chosen as a location due to its good business environment, ready talent pool and the infrastructure. The centre currently employs close to 130 people mostly Australian nationals and the IT major plans on increasing this headcount as and when the business demands. The new centre will broaden Wipro's service capabilities along with its existing presence in Paramatta and Adelaide. Rajat Mathur, Senior Vice President and Chief Sales and Operations Officer, Wipro said, "Wipro is extremely pleased to be increasing its investment in Australia by establishing this new centre in Melbourne. Australia is an important market for us and we enjoy a good deal of business success here as Australian companies demonstrate a continued appetite for our global service delivery model. Wipro looks forward to continued investment in the state of Victoria and elsewhere in Australia."
