Windows 7 beats Vista in OS usage share

Bangalore: The Windows 7 online usage share touched 20 percent in December outdoing Windows Vista. It increased about 1.2 percent from its previous month whereas; Windows Vista fell by half of the points to 12 percent. But the Overall, Windows' usage share slipped by half a point to 90 percent down nearly two points during 2010. Windows Vista and Windows 7 were released in the month of October 2009 and Vista reached a peak of only 18.8 percent. Windows XP fell the farthest in December losing about 1.2 percent and year end share of 56 percent. Statistics provided by Net applications suggests that Windows XP continues to lose share at the average pace of the last three months, it won't dip under 50 percent until the third quarter of this year, and will still account for 12 percent of all OSes in the second quarter of 2014, when it's slated for retirement from support. Also predicted is the next version of Windows. If at all Microsoft releases the next version of Windows 7 called Windows then it is predicted to gain 44 percent of online usage. Net Applications calculates OS usage share from data acquired from the 160 million unique visitors who browse the 40,000 Web sites it monitors for clients.
