Bangalore: Williams Controls is opening a wholly owned manufacturing facility in Pune, India, July 1, 2010. The plant will manufacture electronic pedals for Williams' growing base of customers in India's truck, bus, off-road and automotive markets. Williams Controls also operates global manufacturing plants in Suzhou, China, and Portland, Oregon, home to its corporate headquarters.
"India is a very important growth market for Williams Controls. Our new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will employ the latest Lean Six Sigma techniques to help us better serve our Indian customers and give us the capacity needed to expand with customer demand," said Patrick W. Cavanagh, Williams Controls President and CEO.
Williams Controls began doing business in India in 2006, in conjunction with the country's move toward more stringent emission standards for heavy trucks. Since then, Williams' Indian business and market share have grown steadily to meet increased production demand. Most recently, the company has won significant contracts to build electronic pedals for India's leading vehicle manufacturers.
Williams Controls new 16,000 square foot plant will produce a number of different electronic floor pedals and suspended pedals, in addition to the company's new Light Commercial Vehicle pedals designed for light trucks and automotive markets. Production is scheduled to begin in December of this year, following the plant's build-out and customer validation testing. The Indian manufacturing site is expected to employ over 40 people at full capacity.
